Adverse Weather Conditions Policy
Rationale
This policy acknowledges that the decision to cancel games due to inclement weather can be difficult, however the safety of players and the maintenance of the Club’s assets is paramount. The policy has been formalised to:
- Ensure a consistent approach in letting members know whether or not their game will proceed and
- Provide guidelines in the event of a game having to be cancelled after play has commenced.
Policy
Where there are adverse weather conditions, a decision to call off bowls for that day is to be made by ONE hour prior to the scheduled commencement of that game. In most cases, this will allow time for players to be contacted prior to them leaving home. The Providore and Sponsor of the day need to be advised of this decision as soon as possible.
The decision to cancel a game will be made after checking the state of the green, reviewing the BOM radar, and where appropriate, in consultation with the Greens Director. Road conditions in the local area may also factor in this decision.
The relevant Club Captain and Games Director are responsible for making the decision to cancel a game. If they are not available, this decision will be made by the Game Organiser.
Cancellation after play has commenced – green fees and prize money on incomplete games
If play has commenced and is subsequently cancelled due to deteriorating weather conditions, the following guidelines will apply:
- If six ends or less have been played, the green fees should be refunded or a credit given.
- If more than six ends have been played, the game organisers have the following options available.
- If one game has been completed but not the second, the prize money is allocated on the first game results.
- If more than half the ends have been completed in the second game the aggregate of ends overall can be used to determine the winners.
- An “out of the hat” draw for winners and runners up.
Any disputes by players in these scenarios should be referred to the relevant Club Captain.
